Many believe that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the worlds’ response is likely to heighten the amount and severity of cyber-attacks conducted by the Russians. In the past few years, nonprofits have been a prime target for cyber attacks as the organizations are often smaller and have fewer resources dedicated to technology infrastructure and cyber security. It is reasonable to believe that trend may continue as cyber attacks increase.
Learn more about the possible impact on US organizations and how CLA can help your organization prepare for or respond to a cyber incident. The Department of Homeland Security’s “Shields Up” guidance includes a number of changes nonprofits can make to guard against cyber attacks, including:
- Require multi-factor authentication for all remote access
- Ensure the full network is covered by antivirus/antimalware software and that it is up to date
- Refresh your organization on who your crisis response team is and protocols if an incident occurs
- Test backup procedures for all critical information
Not only can cyber attacks result in financial losses for nonprofits, they can lock your organization out from the ability to access information; often suspending the ability for you to do your work and serve your communities.
