Deep Dive: Informed Perspectives on Financial Health: Using the CFI

This session will provide practical guidance on how to use the Composite Financial Index (CFI) to make informed financial decisions in independent schools. We’ll explore the CFI from the viewpoint of auditors, boarding school business officers, and day school business officers.

Additionally, the CFI will be broken down into its four main ratios to better understand the impact each has on the overall result. Schools who have been participating in BIIS for a sufficient number of years of financial information will have access to automated calculations while others can calculate the ratios with given formulas.

Learning objectives:

Participants will understand how to analyze and interpret the Composite Financial Index (CFI) results and learn how to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for addressing concerns as well as best practices for using the CFI to communicate financial health to stakeholders.
